Week 3 Oral/Aural Skills and Delicious

Week 3 is the week when I feel myself is under great pressure. I think the biggest problem for me is time. Three articles to read, three different types of lesson plans to look through, and more websites to explore. I need to finish all these things before midweek as I have a reply to post. It is a challenge for me. I have to stay up and burn the midnight oil to get my assignments done. When I am ready to post my message, I find many of my classmates have already been there. I am really amazed at how my classmates could manage in such a short time. Meanwhile, I feel a little bit intimidated by them. However, as the old saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining, there is one thing that cheers me up. That is when I checked last weeks discussion thread and found that some of my classmates responded to my posts. This sure has added a bit of confidence and it feels pretty good when someone say hi, I have the same experience with you.

Besides these emotional ups and downs, I do learn things in this week. The articles I read not only gave me some new information but also a lot to think about. For example, Maria Grazia Busas New Perspectives in Teaching Pronunciation has enlightened me with the many possible methods for teaching pronunciation with the help of technology. Lindsay Millers Developing Listening Skills with Authentic Materials has virtually set me thinking about what is the best way to help my students practice their listening skill. Am I doing the correct thing all the time? Do I need any changes? Where should I get started? It is these thinking that pushes me forward in the course of exploration for better strategies of teaching.

  1. Hi:
Since we are not full-time students anymore, time can be a deadly factor among all the activities we have to do at our homes, at work and for the online course. I always trying hard to keep up with: homework, readings, job and family, but it is never easy.

However, besides the fact that we do not always post, read and do homework at the same time, I agree with you that we always end up learning something, even if it's just better time management; although generally we achieve much more than that throughout the week.

I like the way you finish your post:
"Am I doing the correct thing all the time? Do I need any changes? Where should I get started? It is these thinking that pushes me forward in the course of exploration for better strategies of teaching."

All of us are now building skills to become even better teachers.
Keep up the good work! Greetings from Mexico.

    1. Hi, thanks for your comments. I really think I have learned a lot from the course despite the fact that I couldn't finish my assignments faster than others, and now I am seriously considering how could I achieve a better time management. So maybe you have some tips for me on that aspect. : )

  2. Hello Sijing,
You made me smile when I read the first paragraph of your post. I also had the same surprise when I saw that despite the number of links we have received this week, colleagues started posting early in the week. But never mind. What is important in this course is not WHEN you post but WHAT you post. Because what you post reflects what you have learned during the course and this should be your ultimate objective.
I have also learned a lot this week. But unlike you, where I spent more time was learning how to create and use a Delicious account. I took time to try the different tools of Delicious because I personally think that this site will help me a lot with this course on webskills. It will make my research quicker and more accurate so that I can post sooner in the week. But more it will allow me to continue the learning experience beyond this course. This is why I value this tool so much. Give a try and I am sure you will never feel lagging behind again. have a nice experience with Delicious!

    1. "What is important in this course is not WHEN you post but WHAT you post. Because what you post reflects what you have learned during the course and this should be your ultimate objective. " Well said! I also find Delicious is very convenient to use, actually I am using it every day now.
